Day 1 Glasgow
One day in Glasgow may not be enough to fully explore all the city has to offer, but we can make the most of it with a focused itinerary centered around visiting Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, one of the city's top attractions. This magnificent museum is home to an extensive collection of art, artifacts, and natural history exhibits. Highlights include works by renowned artists like Salvador Dali, Rembrandt, and Van Gogh, as well as impressive displays of armor, fossils, and ancient Egyptian artifacts. Your panoramic tour takes you past the University of Glasgow, whose ornate gates commemorate those fames scientists who have taught or studied here: Lister (Listerine), physicist Baron Kelvin (kelvin temperature scale), James Watt (inventor of the steam engine) and others. Perhaps see Ashton Lane, a charming cobbled street filled with pubs, restaurants, and unique shops. Glasgow is renowned for its vibrant nightlife and live music scene. Enjoy a welcome drink and dinner with your traveling companions. (D)
Day 2 From Glasgow to the highlands Enjoy your first Scottish breakfast - including haggis, black pudding, tattie scones, and more. A day to explore the stunning landscapes. You'll soon reach the wild and remote Rannoch Moor. Take some time to admire the breathtaking views. Drive to Glencoe, one of Scotland's most iconic and dramatic valleys, towering mountains and waterfalls. Our Loch Ness cruise leaves from Fort Augustus, a charming village located on the southern tip of the lake. Keep an eye out for the elusive Loch Ness Monster! Stay in Nairn, a beautiful seaside town on the Moray Firth coast. (B,D)
Day 3 Distillery visit & the Home of Golf
Visit the picturesque town of Pitlochry, home to Blair Athol Distillery one of Scotland's oldest single malt distilleries. Take a guided tour to learn about the whisky-making process and don't forget to enjoy a tasting of their signature whisky at the end of the tour. Head east to the historic town of St. Andrews, famous for its university, golf courses, and stunning coastal setting.
Take some time to explore the town's highlights on your own. We suggest the ruins of St. Andrews Cathedral and St. Rule's Tower, walk along the scenic West Sands Beach (setting for Chariots of Fire), and if you're a golf enthusiast, you might want to visit the British Golf Museum. Tonight, we stay at the Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club, located just outside of Edinburgh. Relax and enjoy the hotel's amenities, such as the spa, golf course, or beautiful grounds. (B)
Day 4 Edinburgh, the capital Explore Princes Street, one of Edinburgh's main streets, lined with shops, cafes, and historic buildings. Venture into the New Town area, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its elegant Georgian architecture. Visit Charlotte Square, one of the most impressive squares in Edinburgh, featuring beautiful townhouses and a glimpse into life during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Head to Edinburgh Castle, which has witnessed significant events throughout Scottish history. Be sure to catch the One O'Clock Gun, a traditional firing of the cannon that takes place daily (except Sundays). If you are lucky enough to be traveling July 30-August 21, we’ll include tickets to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, a spectacular performance of music, dance, and military pageantry set against the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. Otherwise, you’ll have dinner (B,D*)
